Shri Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib
Visitors on a spiritual tour to Dehradun should pay a visit to the Guru Ram Rai Gurudwara. Guru Ram Rai Gurudwara, founded in the 17th century, is Dehradun’s oldest pilgrimage site for the Sikh community. Ram Rai, the eldest son of the seventh Guru of Sikhs, Sri Har Raj Ji, commissioned the Gurudwara’s construction.
Many fables are associated with the temple’s history, and according to one of them, Ram Rai was expelled from his town because he was not prepared to take over the position as a Sikh Guru. Then Ram Rai attempts to settle in Dehradun and builds this holy Gurudwara.
Currently, the Guru Ram Rai Gurudwara Darbar Sahib is the most well-known religious center of the Sikh community’s Udaseen sect. The gurudwara’s structure is the finest example of Indo-Islamic architectural style, with domes, minarets, and paintings.
People of all classes, castes, and creeds continue to visit the Darbar Sahib. The Guru Ram Rai Gurudwara provides both free and low-cost lodging. The Gurudwara Association also operates a number of prestigious educational institutions, including a medical college, hospital, and charitable trust. Every year on the fifth day of Holi, Jhanda Fair is held in memory of Guru Ram Rai, and a flag hosting competition takes place.
