Raj Bhawan ( Governor House ) in Nainital

Tallital is home to the Governor’s House, which is around 3 kilometers from the mall road. From the major bus station, one may easily walk or take a rickshaw to this location. Britons who once ruled Nainital have left their artistic impression on the landscapes in palaces, churches, and public places. The Governors House, formally known as Raj Mahal, is one such spectacular relic of the British era.

The mansion, built-in 1990 in “early domestic Gothic style,” used to be the residence of the governor of the north-eastern province and, later, the united province. F.O. Oertel and H.S. Wildeblood developed the Governors House’s unique architecture, which is noted for its ages-old beautiful architecture and odd appearance. It’s a site that fills you with antique charm and architectural wonders from colonial times.

This spectacular mansion was constructed after Buckingham Palace, and it features stately halls, golf grounds, and groomed gardens that speak of British aristocracy and ebullience. Several subterranean tunnels connect this 220-acre property, which was utilized as a hideout by Sultana Daku, India’s Robin Hood. One of the most popular attractions is the Governor’s House indoor 18-hole golf course.

The golf course, which spans 50 acres of land, is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece created and built by British army engineers. Lord Malcolm Hailey, the then-governor general of the United Provinces, commissioned the golf course in 1926. Later that year, in 1995, the golf course opened its doors to the public for observation.

It is regarded as one of the most difficult courses in the world by golfers. The golf course, which is outfitted with cutting-edge amenities such as an underwater tube that aids in the drainage of stagnant water, also hosts a number of golf events. The Raj Bhawan has been deliberately developed around the magnificent terrain and spans a wide area of 205 acres, with a Golf Course on 45 acres of land. Within the castle grounds, there is a swimming pool and a garden.

This Scottish-style castle was built in 1897 during the pre-independence era and took two years to build. The castle’s architecture is Gothic and created in the European style. After independence, it was given the name Raj Bhawan.

The Raj Bhawan is a two-story building with 113 rooms that Britishers utilized during the summer. During their tour to Nainital, most British VIPs and guests stayed at the Raj Bhawan.

Sarojini Naidu was the first Governor of Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) to live in this historic monument after independence. Lush green gardens, Deodar, and Oak trees add to the charm of this location, attracting a large number of tourists.
