Gwal Devta in Champawat

Gwal Devta, also known as Goll Devta or Goril Devta, is a deity of great importance in the region who is known to deliver justice and instill faith in his subjects as their ruler prince.

However, he fell victim to his cruel stepmother’s plans and drowned in a nearby river while imprisoned in an iron cage. His devoted followers build the temple in his honor, believing he still rules over the town and administers justice to the helpless and needy. The temple at Golchaurh receives a large number of pilgrims throughout the year and is highly regarded by all devotees.
