Gangotri Glacier

Gangotri Glacier, located in the Uttarkashi district of the Garhwal Himalayas, is regarded as one of the holiest glaciers. Gangotri Glacier is significant to Hindu pilgrims because it is the source of the sacred River Ganges. The glacier is approximately 30 km long and 4 km wide. This glacier is a popular tourist destination for hikers and adventure seekers.

The glacier’s terminus, known as Gaumukh, is shaped like a cow’s mouth. This glacier, which borders China, also feeds the Bhagirathi River. The trek to Gangotri Glacier is legendary, with an exhilarating trail. The route is difficult, but it provides some of the most breathtaking views of enchanting Himalayan peaks such as Shivling, Bhagirathi, Meru, and others.

The Gangotri glacier is a fascinating natural wonder. It is a testament to the beauty of creation, with glacial troughs, crevasses, waterfalls, smooth rock walls, and supraglacial lakes. Trekkers looking for true bliss should go to the Gangotri Glacier.
